About ScanHue
ScanHue is a collection of color utilities that run entirely in your web browser:
- Photo Palette Extractor — pull the dominant colors out of any photo, refine them with an eyedropper, and export the palette as an image or copy the codes.
- Image Color Picker — hover any image with a pixel-zoom loupe and collect exact colors at original resolution.
- Contrast Checker — test text/background pairs against the WCAG AA and AAA accessibility standards.
- Colorblind Simulator — preview any image the way people with protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia, or achromatopsia see it.
- Color Code Converter — HEX, RGB, HSL, CMYK, and OKLCH, with one-click copy for every format.
- Shades & Tints Generator — turn one color into a Tailwind-style 50–900 scale, exportable as CSS variables or a config block.
- Color Harmony Generator — complementary, analogous, triadic, tetradic, and monochromatic schemes from any base color.
- Duotone Generator — map a photo's shadows and highlights to two colors and export the result as a PNG.
Privacy first
Every tool on this site processes your data locally, inside your browser. Photos you open are never uploaded, transmitted, or stored on any server — the site works even if you disconnect from the internet after loading the page. Saved palettes live in your own browser's local storage and never leave your device. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Why these tools exist
Most online color utilities either upload your images to a server, bury one feature across three pages of ads, or both. We wanted the opposite: fast single-purpose tools, no accounts, no upload step, honest about what happens to your data. Extraction quality gets real attention here — the palette extractor is tuned to catch small but meaningful accent colors (the red umbrella on a gray street), not just five shades of the largest surface.
No accounts, no lock-in
Everything is copyable and exportable: HEX/RGB/HSL codes, PNG palettes, simulated images, CSS variables, Tailwind configs. Your palette library is stored in your browser and can be rebuilt anywhere in minutes. If this site disappeared tomorrow, you'd lose nothing you couldn't take with you today.
Who runs this
ScanHue is built and maintained by an independent developer as a long-term project — not a growth experiment. The site is supported by unobtrusive advertising so that every tool stays free, with no feature gates and no sign-up walls.
